Equanimity Maths is an online Maths tuition service for Irish secondary school students, covering Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate at both Higher and Ordinary Level, from 2nd Year through to 6th Year.
We run live online classes in small groups of five students, alongside 2-to-1 grinds and individual sessions. Every lesson is mapped to the Irish SEC curriculum, and every class is deliberately capped so that no student disappears into the back of the room.
The name is the philosophy. Equanimity means mental calmness and composure, especially in difficult situations — and Maths is a difficult situation for a great many Irish students. Most of them are not struggling with the subject. They are struggling with the anxiety that has built up around it, and with the belief that Maths is simply not for them. We exist to change that belief.
Our approach puts understanding before technique. A student who genuinely understands why a method works can adapt when an exam paper throws something unexpected at them. A student who has memorised the steps cannot. That distinction is what separates grades in June, and it is what every Equanimity Maths session is built around.
Equanimity Maths is founded and run by Tadgh Hanrahan, a qualified Maths and PE teacher with a B.Ed from Dublin City University, over five years of tutoring experience across every year group and ability level, and a year teaching full-time in an Irish secondary school.
We also provide Maths tuition for trade apprentices and third level students through our Trade & College programme.

"True understanding brings calm. Calm brings confidence. Confidence brings results. That's not just a teaching philosophy — it's the foundation every Equanimity Maths session is built on."
Growing up, Tadgh Hanrahan experienced first-hand what so many Irish students still face today — a Maths classroom that felt rigid, impersonal, and disconnected from how young people actually learn. That experience didn't put him off the subject. It lit a fire.
Tadgh went on to study at Dublin City University, graduating with a degree in Maths and Physical Education. As a Maths tutor in Ireland, he has spent over five years tutoring students across every year group and ability level — from students who are falling behind to those pushing for H1s — and has worked full-time in an Irish secondary school, giving him an insight into the classroom that very few tutors have.
He understands the pressure of large class sizes, the gaps they leave, and exactly what students need to fill them. That breadth of experience — across ages, abilities, and environments — is what makes Equanimity Maths different. Tadgh doesn't deliver a one-size-fits-all lesson. He reads the room, adapts his approach, and finds the angle that makes a concept click.
Equanimity Maths was founded on one core belief: that every student arrives with a story about whether Maths is "for them" or not — and that story can be rewritten. Through engaging, calm, and personally tailored sessions, Tadgh works to dismantle the anxiety and replace it with genuine understanding and lasting self-belief.
"Education is a pathway to liberation. My job isn't just to help students pass an exam — it's to change the way they see themselves as learners."
